I am definitely not a writer or blogger of any sort. I am beginning to think however, maybe I should be. This might not be perfect prose, it might not flow... but I need to do more than just document my journeys with images.
Two weeks ago on Friday I semi-randomly decided I was taking a trip to New York. It has been on my to do list for such a long time. But being a single working mom I don't have a lot of time to myself. I took a day/night off and decided I was going to use that day to do something epic. Two days prior I posted an Instagram story asking if anyone wanted to come with me. I am just a girl after all... I needed a bodyguard. I got two! My best friend Paul, and this guy Alan whom I had never met in person but had been a long time Insta buddy. You can find them on Instagram to see their views of our day trip. Paul is @stravagemedia and Alan is @alanmedron.
We left Rhode Island at about 10:00 am and arrived in Brooklyn at about 1:00 pm. The second we got there I knew this place is where I am meant to be. I immediately fell in love with the beautiful scenery. We started out at the Brooklyn Bridge Park over by the pier. Off in the distance on the horizon was the most amazing city scape I have ever seen. Over to the left was the Statue of Liberty! It was truly gorgeous. Right off the bat Alan got surprised by the tide and soaked through his fancy shoes. He was definitely not wearing the appropriate foot attire to traverse the city, and now was soaked to the bone in 35 degree weather. Good job, Alan. ;)
We spent the better part of the rest of the day walking the Brooklyn Bridge. This was absolutely my favorite part of the day. There were hundreds if not thousands of people walking over this bridge. All complete strangers and beautiful in their own way. I took as many candid portraits as I could while walking this bridge. I met a couple of really cool people. I am horrible with names so if you happen to be one of the people I met please reach out and remind me! There were these two awesome guys with accents who let me take their portraits... well one of them did. The other was a tad camera shy! There were the two super cool guys running the bus who let me take their image and let Alan get on the bus and take a photo! (thanks again guys!) and just so many amazing New Yorkers and tourists I truly had the best day!
We also took some landscapes! The boys probably took more landscape and street shots than I did. I was truly just fascinated with the characters and life of the city. Alan had a death wish, apparently. He constantly was getting down in the middle of busy traffic trying to take photos! At one point Paul did the same and some jerk wad decided he was going to speed towards Paul and almost kill him with his car. This turned into a fight... That guy was a real jerk. He slapped Alan. Things got pretty crazy. It was definitely scary and I don't ever want to have to go through something like that again! The guy in that car definitely lived up to the typical "New Yorker" stereotype. Luckily he was the only one.
We wrapped the night up with some real New York pizza and some long exposures. Alan ran back to the bridge to get some traffic shots while Paul and I went to the carousel and had some fun light painting. I naturally had to bring my pet Cosmo the Crudely Drawn Cat on the trip. For those of you who don't know, and most of you wont because he is a fairly new companion of mine... Cosmo will be accompanying me on every trip and every night photoshoot going forward. I will be telling his story along the way so you can all get to know him much better.
We left New York at about 8:00 pm and made it back to Rhode Island around 11:00 pm. Just in time for me to make it to my favorite bar, Aidans in Bristol, RI and meet my girl Brittany for her birthday. I had an absolute blast. All in all, it was the best day/night I have had in such a long time! Make sure you check out my Instagram @kaitlincreations for this adventure and all my future adventures! I will be posting some of the NY photos in this blog, the rest will be up on my site soon! Hope you enjoyed my day trip as much as I did!
That guy was awesome!
